Hey there…my name is Erin. I was born & raised in Grand Rapids, MI. I more than likely will never move from this city. Why? Well, it has treated me well over my first 30 years of life & I can only imagine the next 30 will be just as crazy good. I am so fortunate to live the life I live. It took me a hot minute to get to where I am at in my life at this very moment, but every minute was worth it. I have had (and will continue to have) so many learning experiences that has shaped me into the person I am today. I have a lot of very important people to thank for always supporting me & believing in me. To the people who didn’t believe, I want to thank you too. I have room for a lot of love & laughter in my life…plain and simple, so if you are looking for that welcome to my blog.
Well let’s get to the meat & potatoes. I’ll say it…”I LOVE to cook.” It runs so thick in my blood & comes so natural to me it is almost wrong. I say that with the most humble tone…I promise. I attended the Peter Secchia Culinary Institute here in Grand Rapids well over a decade ago. Although I went there for a couple years, I need to give a lot of credit to my Grandma T. and my mother who inspired me to begin cooking at a very young age. So many people ask me why I cook, as if it is a chore, but I look at it as an opportunity to crEATe endless beautiful food for the people around me. Sharing is caring & don’t you forget it. As adults we have a human obligation to enjoy the amazing food that our world has to offer us. It truly saddens me to see people not trying new foods or stepping outside their comfort zones of cooking. Little tidbit…there are approximately 2,000 different types of plant species out there in our world. Can you imagine how many recipes you could come up with & totally grub on! Why you would want to shut that out or not try them is beyond me. So what if a meal flops, it was a risk worth taking and the next time around it will be better!
I cook simply because it is what my heart yearns for. It means that my loved ones are going to enjoy good food & great company. It is my form of theraphy, much cheaper theraphy. I always try to make cooking an experience…to make a connection with someone. The best part of cooking besides good food is awesome company & hopefully laughter around the dinner table. That is the best, most fulfilling reward, a full dinner table. If someone wants to learn how to better understand food or cooking, I will always lend a helping hand through my knowledge. Just ask!
My overall personality is a blend of outgoing & childlike behaviors. I LOVE to have fun, I love to laugh & not be too serious. I am a kid at heart, but self disciplined enough to make a living through yet another passion of mine – HAIR. Yeah, that’s right. I am a hair stylist & I love it. This to is a newer venture for me, but the best choice I could have made career wise thus far. Each day I get to go into work and make people feel beautiful. I get to be apart of their self image. Let’s face it, we all want to feel beautiful inside & out and to be apart of that process is truly amazing. I get to know my clients on a level that sometimes even their own family & friends don’t even know. I feel honored to be their hair stylist and of course much more.
Thank you for following me & my blog. crEATe is a newer venture for me so please be patient as I teach myself how to bring you good flavor & good fun. Please embrace the word crEATe as it will offer you exactly that…an opportunity to crEATE food and crEATe memories. I promise to provide you with great stories along the way. I usually have no shame & will throw it all out there. I like to laugh, cry, scream (I really don’t scream a lot at least in public) and eat. I will have no problem embarrassing myself or others as long as you promise me your laughs. Life is to short to sweat the small stuff, so go big and eat like it’s your last meal.
In the meantime, please live life to the fullest, whatever that may be for you, just do it…you’ll feel better! Oh and eat something new…it will be glorious.
